Characteristics of Limburg
The river Maas is an important factor in this province, running all the way from the south to the north.
The southern part of this province (foothills of the Belgian Ardennes) is the only hilly part of the country. Be prepared for some steep climbs and the views will be rewarding. The Vaalserberg, the highest point of the country at a hefty 311 meters above sea level, can be found in this area.
In this southern part you also find a nice network of cycle routes.
Don't forget to taste "vlaai", the traditional pastry the province is famous for.
